We are looking for a procurement coordinator to join our team. This position will be responsible for supporting the development of a resilient procurement function at Thunder Bay Pulp and Paper. The role is responsible for sourcing, negotiating and securing high-quality materials and services that directly support mill operations and production reliability and will drive vendor performance, ensure compliance with company standards and contribute to cost optimization while supporting long-term supply chain sustainability.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure adherence to legislated and company standards for safety, control, and housekeeping,
- Source and negotiate suppliers based on price, availability, necessity, quality and logistical expenses as well as reduce risk and improve service levels while building collaborative relationships with suppliers to support mill operations,
- Assess vendors and their offerings with in-person visits, interview and analysis to assess their quality through audits and performance reviews,
- Assist in establishing standardized procurement processes and policies to support mill operations with timely sourcing of critical parts, equipment and materials. Maintain a contract repository and monitor renewal cycles as well as recommend strategies for vendor consolidation and local sourcing,
- Track procurement KPI’s (cost savings, supplier performance, lead times) and provide regular reporting and support inventory management strategies to reduce waste optimize stock levels and mitigate supply disruptions,
- Develop vendor qualification and evaluation systems to ensure consistent quality and reliability and drive continuous improvement in procurement workflows focusing on efficiency, transparency and compliance,
- Support implementation of digital tools or ERP modules for procurement tracking and reporting,
- Collaborate with various internal departments to anticipate and ensure that they fulfill procurement needs and prevent downtime while identifying cost reduction opportunities and process improvements,
- Coordinate with shipping agencies and sellers to ensure timely deliveries and oversee the integrity and quality of delivered goods and services,
- Authorize payments and manage purchasing expenses with meticulous record-keeping.
Your Profile:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in business or supply chain (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum three years of relevant supply chain experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Pulp and paper or heavy industry experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in vendor negotiations, contract management and supplier performance monitoring as well as strong analytical skills with the ability to leverage data for decision-making and process improvement.
- Familiarity with industrial chemicals, services, parts and capital project equipment.
- Preference to candidates with a professional designation (SCMP, CPP or equivalent).
- Strong computer skills required, including experience with Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point.
- Strong organization skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Communications and relationship-building with internal/external contacts.
- High ethical standards and commitment to compliance and sustainability.
- Drive progress independently and thrives in autonomy and fast-paced settings.
Compensation:
- This is a salary position depending on experience plus an annual bonus and relocation assistance.
