The Communications Specialist will support the development and execution of a comprehensive internal and external communication strategy to strengthen employee engagement and enhance the company’s reputation within the industry, community, and talent pool.
Responsibilities:
Internal Communications
Develop content that highlights employee alignment with the company’s vision & values, problem solving successes, and operational improvements.
- Serve as editor of internal channels (CEO messages, digital displays, weekly discussion guide for leaders, and others to be developed).
- Develop content (news articles, employee features, photography, video) for internal channels in support of the internal message strategy.
- Align and schedule messaging across the company, including function/department messages from Safety, Nurse, Training, HR, IT, etc.
- Support development and launch of new channels and platforms.
- Support event coordination with project management, promotions, staging.
- Support change and crisis communication strategies as directed.
External Communications
Develop content that aligns with the company’s vision & values and promotes it as a driving force in restoring the Canadian forestry industry, a trustworthy community partner, and an employer of choice.
Media Relations
- Create initiative-taking media outreach plan and message calendar based on national holidays and other company and community milestones.
- Develop and pitch feature article ideas, draft press releases and field media inquiries.
- Refine and regularly update the media list, track news coverage, and manage the company’s clip file.
Social Media
- Create message calendar for the company’s social media presence (LinkedIn, Facebook, and other potential channels).
- Regularly and proactively post content in support of message strategy; monitor chatter.
Website
- Update and maintain website content in support of message strategy and regulatory compliance.
- Support rebranding/upgrades to site.
Continuous Improvement
- Support design and implementation of a communication framework aligned with the company’s vision & values and management operating system.
- Support creation and delivery of communication effectiveness measurement tools including employee engagement surveys, annual communication surveys, pulse surveys, digital platform analytics, and other feedback loops; provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
Your Profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field (master’s degree an asset).
- 3-5 years of progressive experience in communications, ideally within manufacturing, industrial, or resource-based industries.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences and multiple platforms.
- Basic photography and videography/editing skills.
- Social media proficiency.
- Ability to manage multiple communication channels and platforms, including digital and print.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills to engage effectively with employees, leadership, community stakeholders, and media.
- Project management/coordination experience.
- Event coordination experience.
- Change management experience an asset.
- Strong MS Office abilities.

Compensation:
- This is a salary position depending upon experience plus an annual bonus and relocation assistance.
